Short dissertation proposal requirements
- Use Arial 11-point font, at least 0.5-inch margins
- Maximum 3 Pages for Sections II - VI
- Maximum 0.5 Single Distance Page for Section VII
- Maximum 0.5 Single Distance Page for Sections VIII-IX
- Maximum 0.5 page for essential figures or tables.
- Title page: project title, name of the student, chairman of the committee, the committee members and the date. If your committee is not yet formally formed, enter the members of the potential committees that they consider, including a chairman who has to have been selected.
- Special goals: List the immediate goals of the project in relation to tested hypotheses or research questions to be answered. If desired, the total purpose of this examination line can be mentioned in order to indicate the long-term significance of specific information through this study. In this section, the 1/2 page may no longer be and often shorter.
- Background and meaning: describe the scientific context for the study that briefly summarize related research. This should not be a comprehensive literature exam. Keep references to a minimum by quoting only those that are most relevant. This section should focus on knowledge gaps that the proposed project will help. It should not exceed 1/2 page.
- Methods: The format of this section can be adapted to the needs of the proposed specific study. However, the following subcontracts are usually valid, and their use is promoted. This should be the longest portion of the proposal.
- student design: define a) The study design, b) the (or implemented interventions), c), as the primary exposures would be evaluated and quantified (if applicable)), d) results to rate and their definition and e) the most important covariates and their definition.
- Study setting : Describe the place, the organizational context, the clinical site or other settings in which research would take place.
- Studies: Specify the source (s) of studying studies, authorization criteria, and the expected number to be investigated.
- data acquisition: Describe the sources of the most important data items. If applicable, the order of data acquisition activities should be specified for a typical subject. A diagram may be helpful if data comes from multiple sources, or if multiple observations are to be obtained over time. If there are plans to monitor and secure the data quality (for example, double data for some or all subjects, checks of a data source against another), describe them short.
- data analysis: describe how the data is organized to display each of the specific objectives and / or hypotheses specified in Section A, where the statistical techniques to be used are specified. Dummy tables or characters can be helpful.
- Study Power: summarize the results of the statistical energy or sample size calculations.
- Restrictions : Briefly describe the most important restrictions that go beyond your control (eg, which have already been decided or implemented), which can affect the ability to adequately the primary hypotheses sufficient Testing your interpretation of the study results.
- Timeline: Providing an approximate timeline for completing the project. Specify the current status of the project to enclose plans for: 1); and 2) General exam.
- References: Providing quotes to the literature references used in the proposal.
- Data collection request: Describe how to meet the requirement of the original data acquisition of this project.(See the PHD manual for acceptable data acquisition details.)
- Student role: describe your role in the project (eg idea, financing, design, data acquisition, data management, analysis).
